SECTION 1 — FAITH ARTICLE
Part A — THE PARABLE
Then John's disciples came and asked him, "How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?" Jesus answered, "How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast." (Matthew 9:14-15)
Jesus was approached by the disciples of John the Baptist and the Pharisees concerning the behavior of His disciples, who were not fasting. At that time, fasting was a common practice associated with penitence and awaiting the Messiah. Jesus used the occasion to reveal profound truths about His identity and mission.
Part B — JESUS' EXPLANATION
In using the metaphor of a wedding, Jesus identified Himself as the Bridegroom, suggesting that His presence marked a time of joy and celebration. Fasting was inappropriate while He, the reason for joy, was with them. It pointed to a future time when His physical absence would make fasting appropriate, likely indicating the sorrow and longing His followers would experience after His crucifixion.
Part C — COMMENTARY
This parable reorients the focus of spiritual practices toward the person of Christ. The disciples' time with Jesus was a foretaste of the eschatological wedding feast, the ultimate culmination of God’s redemptive plan, showcasing His grace and love. In the reformed perspective, it underscores the sufficiency of Christ’s presence over ritual observance. We are reminded that our spiritual disciplines flow not from mere duty, but from a relationship with a living Savior who invites us to the feast. As we ponder this, let us examine our hearts: Are we living in the joy of the Bridegroom’s presence, eagerly anticipating His return?

The Dodgers’ offense was relentless, with Mookie Betts leading the charge. His multi-hit performance, alongside Cody Bellinger’s four RBIs, proved too much for the Rockies. On the mound, starter Julio Urias secured the win, delivering a steady outing that underpinned the team's emphatic triumph.
